COVID-19 testing under the Swab And Send Home (SASH) programme is available at Bethesda Medical Centre. Bethesda Medical Centre is a Public Health Preparedness Clinic (PHPC). If you are assessed to have symptoms suggestive of COVID-19 infection, your primary care doctor (GP) can perform a COVID-19 PCR & ART swab tests on you at the clinic if it is participating in SASH. Otherwise, you will be referred to a PHPC clinic where SASH is available.
We can also conduct surveillance PCR for well persons who may have been exposed to risk of COVID infection, as well as pre-travel PCR test, on-arrival test (OAT), rostered routine test (RRT), serology test to look for past infection or for evidence of immunological response after vaccination.
I was referred by another clinic to be swabbed at Bethesda Medical Centre. Do I need to pay for the consultation and swab test?
You should present yourself to Bethesda Medical Centre SASH PHPC early after getting the referral from the referring GP clinic. If you present yourself within 48 hours with a completed referral form, you do not need to pay for the consultation and swab at the receiving SASH PHPC.
However, if you present to the SASH PHPC after 48 hours from your visit at the first GP clinic, or if you do not bring along a completed referral form provided by the first referring GP, you will need to be reviewed by the SASH PHPC clinic again. In such cases, you may be charged as per a regular Flu Subsidy Scheme (FSS) / Community Health Assist Scheme (CHAS) acute visit, if you are Singaporean / Permanent Resident or eligible Foreign Worker. If you are not eligible for FSS or CHAS, the consultation fee charged by the SASH PHPC applies.
You can also consult for other non-Acute Respiratory Infection (ARI) conditions at this visit, however you will be charged for consultation and medication separately.
What type of COVID swab will be done if I present with ARI symptoms?
Under current Ministry of Health guidelines, all persons presenting with symptoms of Acute respiratory Infection (ARI) will be offered Antigen Rapid Test (ART) as well as Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) COVID-19 test. You will need to be isolated at home until the result of your PCR test is out.
The result of the ART test will be known within 30 minutes. If your are ART positive, you may need to be conveyed to a government quarantine facility until the result of your PCR is known. The PCR result will be available within 24 – 48 hours.
When will I be informed of the swab results?
You will be informed of your swab results via message to your handphone – ART results will be available usually within 30 minutes; PCR results will be available within 24 to 48 hours.
